Kapustnica or Sauerkraut soup is prepared for Christmas and New Year´s dinner. Every Slovak family has its own version of this soup.

Ingredients:

1 kg of sauerkraut

4 medium onions

750 pork meat

4 potatoes

sausage with red pepper,

mushrooms

sweet paprika

4 gloves of garlic

dried plumps

lard

 

How to make:

Heat lard in a pot. Add chopped onions. Add sweet red paprika .Add water and pork meat. Boil untill pork meat is tender. Take out meat and cut it into pieces. Add sauerkraut. Put the chopped meat and whole sausage. Add mushrooms and dried plumps.  Cook untill sauerkraut is tender. Add potatoes and cook them for a half hour of cooking time. Add dried plumps and cook for about ten minutes. You can serve the soup with sour cream and bread. Dobrú chuť!
